First Filipino Barber on a TEDx Stage
On September 2025, Gum delivered a TEDx talk titled “Why I’m Obsessed with Barbering” at TEDxYouth@DLSUSHS.
In the talk, he shared his journey from studying hotel and restaurant management and working as a banker to building a career in barbering. He spoke about opening small businesses, transitioning into a barbershop, and committing fully to the craft.
The talk highlighted his training in UK academies such as OP Barberworld and MENSPIRE Academy, and his role as the first Filipino Wahl Southeast Asia barbering educator. He also spoke about falling in love with public speaking while pursuing mastery in barbering. The talk was widely shared online and celebrated within the local barbering community.

Gum regularly speaks at seminars, workshops, and barbering events across the Philippines.
Event organizers and barbering groups invite him not only for his experience as a judge, but also for his ability to deliver talks that connect technical skill with real-world insight. He is often asked to speak during barbering competitions, expos, and industry gatherings, sharing lessons on craft, professionalism, and long-term growth.
In his workshops and training sessions, speaking is integrated into the program, allowing participants to learn both hands-on techniques and the thinking behind them. These sessions help barbers understand why standards, consistency, and preparation matter beyond the haircut itself. Through these platforms, Gum reaches barbers at different stages of their careers and supports education through direct engagement.

Gum’s speaking work has also reached audiences outside the barbering industry.
In September 2025, he shared the stage with Francis Kong at the University of Perpetual Help System Molino Campus, where his story of grit and growth inspired students. His presence alongside established motivational speakers signaled broader recognition of his narrative.
In November 2025, Gum joined a Philippine delegation at the World Business Forum in New York City, attending sessions alongside business leaders and speakers such as Francis Kong and Chinkee Tan. Participation in WOBI allowed him to exchange ideas with global thinkers. These experiences marked a new chapter in his speaking journey.
